Can you smoke AVB? That is the question we set out to answer in this video. A buddy suggested mixing ABV (already been vaped) cannabis with fresh weed in a 50/50 ratio to stretch your stash further. We rolled a joint, smoked it on camera, and gave our honest 3-point verdict on taste, effects, and whether it is worth doing again.
Can You Smoke AVB — The Experiment Setup
For this test we used a digital scale to measure out exactly 0.5 grams of ABV and 0.5 grams of fresh Blue Dream cannabis. The idea behind the 50/50 split is that the fresh weed masks the flavor of the vaped material while the ABV adds some residual THC and bulk to stretch your supply. We mixed both together thoroughly on a rolling tray and packed it into a pre-rolled cone.
The ABV used was light to medium brown — typical of cannabis vaped at moderate temperatures. It had been saved from regular vaping sessions and would normally be used for edibles like cannabutter or AVB tea.
Can You Smoke AVB — 3-Point Taste Test
1. Initial Flavor
The first hit does not taste like a normal joint. You can tell immediately that something is different. There are moments where the fresh Blue Dream flavor comes through, but it gets quickly overtaken by a stale, flat taste from the ABV. It is not burnt exactly — more like something that has lost all its brightness. If you handed this joint to a friend without telling them, they would assume you brought some low-quality weed.
2. Aftertaste and Mouthfeel
The aftertaste is where things get interesting. There is a distinct flavor that is hard to place — not harmful but not pleasant either. The best description is a mix of stale popcorn and something vaguely styrofoam-like. The fresh cannabis flavor comes and goes in waves, creating an inconsistent experience compared to a pure joint. The smoke is tolerable but not something you would look forward to.
3. Effects and High
Can you smoke AVB and still get high? Yes — we did get stoned from the joint. However, the high is noticeably weaker than smoking pure fresh cannabis since the ABV has already had most of its THC extracted during vaping. The 50/50 mix means you are effectively smoking half the potency. If getting high is the primary goal, you would need to smoke significantly more compared to a joint rolled with only fresh flower.
Can You Smoke AVB — The Honest Verdict
Can you smoke AVB? Technically yes. Should you? Probably not by choice. The taste is tolerable in a 50/50 mix but it is not enjoyable. It works as a last resort if you are completely out of fresh cannabis, but we would not choose to do it again. The experience is similar to finding old weed in a jacket pocket — it will work in a pinch but you are not going to be excited about it.
Smoking pure AVB without mixing in fresh weed is even worse according to most reports. We did not test that because life is short and there are better ways to use your ABV.
3 Better Ways to Use Your AVB
Instead of smoking it, here are 3 better alternatives for your already vaped bud:
- Make edibles — AVB is already decarboxylated from vaping, so you can add it directly to recipes. Cannabutter, brownies, and cookies are popular options.
- Brew AVB tea — Steep your ABV in hot water with a fat source like coconut oil or butter. The remaining cannabinoids bind to the fat and create a mild, relaxing tea.
- Make a tincture — Soak AVB in high-proof alcohol for a few weeks to create a Green Dragon tincture. This extracts the remaining THC and CBD for sublingual dosing.
All 3 of these methods extract more value from your AVB than smoking it, and the taste is much more manageable since you are not inhaling the stale vaped material directly.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can you smoke AVB by itself?
You can, but the taste is reportedly very harsh and unpleasant. Mixing it 50/50 with fresh cannabis makes it tolerable but still not enjoyable. Most experienced users recommend saving ABV for edibles instead.
Does smoking AVB get you high?
Yes, but the high is weaker than fresh cannabis since most of the THC has already been extracted during vaping. How much THC remains depends on the temperature you vaped at — lower temps leave more behind.
What is the best ratio for mixing AVB with fresh weed?
A 50/50 ratio is the most common suggestion. Some users prefer a 30/70 (AVB/fresh) split for better flavor while still stretching their supply. Going above 50% AVB makes the taste significantly worse.
